Strelitzia Nicolai is a flowering plant of the family Strelitziaceae. It is native to South Africa, southern Namibia and Zimbabwe, with a natural distribution in moist grassland or swampy areas.The genus name commemorates Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of King George III and mother of Queen Victoria. The species epithet “reginae” means “of the queen”.The flowers are white which resemble a birds beak. The leaves are broad, , 45-90 cm long and 5-12 cm wide and typically split to allow more light to its lower levels. It can take some years before flowers develop but its a very handsome statement foliage plant.
