The genus Ceanothus is comprised of about 200 species, the majority of which are found in California. The deciduous Trewithen Blue variety was discovered in Cornwall, England in the 18th century and has since been popularized as an ornamental shrub. The plant is well-known for its dense, thick foliage that turns deep blue when it blooms in the spring. It's also a very low-maintenance plant - it thrives on neglect!
